Like traveling a slice of open road, there’s something about New Years that feels like freedom. But before I leap out of 2013 and into the new projects calling me, I have some important thanks to offer:
DEAR 2013:
You kicked my ass. You caught me by surprise and laid me flat out. And for that, I thank you.
The haze is finally clearing, 2013, and now I understand what you were trying to tell me. Look my business square in the face at least once a month and evaluate with brutal honesty how it’s going. Give at least as much as I’m gifted. Take care of my professional relationships, because they can disappear as quickly as they came. Devise a bulletproof emergency backup plan (and tame my ego enough to know when to put the plan into effect). And most of all, don’t forget to dream and play.
So in the spirit of a more graceful 2014, I’m calling forth Three Words to help guide my efforts.
Presence.
I commit to relating to my business from a place of friendly, warm presence. I recognize that it has its own unique needs, and as I take care of it, it will take care of me, my clients, and most importantly, my family.
Planning.
I commit to monthly planning sessions in order to advance this business toward its highest purpose. This way, when the sh*t hits the fan (… and it will, it will!), Creatrix will not self-destruct.
Play.
As the commander and chief of the Creatrix universe, my third and final guiding word is PLAY. Because no matter what happens professionally, when I’m feeling light, clear, and true in my heart, sharp things don’t cut nearly as deeply. And that’s a way saner world to live in.
So tonight when I’m celebrating the turn of the year, I’ll hug my girls, I’ll smooch my beautiful man, and I’ll thank Creation for my extraordinary life. Then, I’ll toast one to you, 2013. For all you’ve taught me in these 12 short months, I thank you.
Onward!
